Menopause and skin aging: all remedies

Even if it is not the end of life, all of us women fear menopause as if it were.

In fact, it is very difficult to accept menopause with a smile, because it is not only the end of our reproductive cycle (which could also please us).

Hot flashes, insomnia, weight gain, as well as increased wrinkles and loss of tone, are some of the effects of menopause due to the irregularity of hormones, especially estrogen and progesterone.

Skin and estrogen reduction

The reduction of estrogen, the hormones of youth, has a significant impact on our skin.

Estrogens, in addition to influencing the production of collagen and elastin that are fundamental for tone and elasticity of the skin, are also able to counteract the negative effect that external factors have on the skin. With the lack of estrogens the skin gets thinner, it becomes drier, the first wrinkles appear with loss of tone, besides the hateful dark spots.

The good news is that we can help our skin during this period and beyond.

What to do to moisturize our skin

We can start hydrating from the inside by drinking a lot of water, about 1.5 / 2 liters a day.

Eating fruits and vegetables that can provide vitamins A, C and E, which are essential as antioxidants, synthesizers of collagen and valid aid against free radicals.

Doing physical activity, improving blood circulation, also helps the skin of the face. We should avoid smoking and alcohol and, if possible, sleep at least 6/8 hours.

Choosing the right face cream

It is very important to help our skin also from the outside using specific face creams.

We choose a lighter day cream and in the evening it would be useful to use the serum, which is a concentrate of active ingredients, under the night cream.

But which cream to choose? What should the creams contain to be effective?

Here’s what we should look for on the cream jar for our face:

Retinol: which stimulates cell renewal and preserves collagen.

Hyaluronic acid (Glycosaminoglycan): which gives elasticity and resistance to the skin as well as moisturizing it.

Active plant ingredients such as Genistein which compensates for the loss of estrogen and promotes the production of collagen and elastin.

Let us always remember to protect our face from the sun’s rays, one of the main causes of skin aging.
