At New York MoMa fashion is on scene

The expected “Items: is fashion modern?” event is being exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York from 1 October to 28 January 2018.

The peculiarity of the 111 items (dresses and accessories) on exhibit is that it’s not about designer dresses, but it is what’s being worn every day, fashionable items that have become part of the daily life. Items that have changed the course of fashion history and have had a great impact also in society.

From Levi’s to Converse to Marinella’s ties, but also to the little black dress and the Wonderbra (the revolutionary push-up).

The exhibition is dedicated to cult objects and the impact they have had with culture, economics and art over the last two hundred years.

Anecdotes and curiosity about the objects

You will also find interesting curiosities and anecdotes that will show you the objects differently.

One among them is that of the mythical Hermes Birkin bag. In 1981, actress Jane Birkin dropped her bag during a flight from Paris to London and all the content poured into the ground. Sitting next to her was a Hermes manager Jean_Louis Dumas. The two began to talk about how it would be useful to have a pocket inside the bag and so one of the most desired handbags in the world was born.

If you plan a trip to the Big Apple, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the exhibition and observe its original point of view.
