How to wear kaftan in town

caftano per donne over fifty Not Only Twenty

Today I speak of a dress I love, of which I have already spoken to you, the kaftan. Indisputable protagonist of the summer, the kaftan was born in 600 BC in Persia. Long to the feet with bell shape sleeves and deep neckline, it is a men’s dress (Vogue encyclo), in the 1950’s, Diana Vreeland, famous editor and fashion journalist (Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue) after a trip to Morocco, begins to write fascinating articles about this dress in Vogue.

It was in the 1960s that kaftan became a female dress with the help of Yves Saint Laurent who designed some for the New York billionaires. Since then kaftan has entered the history of women’s fashion, with a huge success for style and practicality.

Who does not remember the great Marta Marzotto and her beautiful kaftans?

When to wear a kaftan

Many of us are convinced that kaftan is to be relegated to marine areas, but it is not really so.

An extremely elegant dress lends itself well to important events, as Uma Thurman and Bianca Jagger demonstrate, just to name a few.

Monochrome or with ethnic or Asian prints, long sleeves, deep neckline and more or less wide, this dress is suitable for both day and evening.

To make a difference are the accessories, which can be minimal or in large abundance and very large.

You wear a small necklace during the day and an big necklace and large multi-layered bracelets in the evening.

The only thing you do NOT  have to wear with kaftan are high heels.

Slipper (which makes Marrakesh so much), flat sandals (even precious) or sandals with plateau for the evening.

Handbag of all colors you like, even contrasting or not present in the print of the fabric.

Miahatami colorful kaftan

The one I show you is by new brand (first collection  Autumn / Winter 2015-16) Miahatami.

The brand is created by the Iranian Narguess Hatami, with a great experience in the Italian fashion industry and with roots in Persia of silk road.

The marriage could not but create anything less than beautiful!

Precious fabrics, embroidery, unique fantasies, this is what MiaHatami proposes.

My kaftan has white background with small flowers and colorful birds, a turquoise bottom band also on sleeves, with deep neckline and gathering under the breast. I’ve paired it with a pair of blue flip-flops with a seahorse and yellow clutches.

I love this kind of clothing because it is cool, comfortable and stylish, what more to ask for a dress?
