Sadness in the fashion world

Franca Sozzani, one of the most powerful journalists in the fashion industry, died today in Milan after a year-long illness.

“The Devil Wears Prada”…is this the case?

Franca Sozzani was undoubtedly a giant of Italian fashion, her work shouted loudly, but  Franca Sozzani didn’t seem to belong to this crazy world.

She was a quiet presence on the fashion circuit, with a very classic and simple style, far away from excesses, always with her very personal long-blond hair’s cut and her beatific smile.

At the helm of Vogue Italia for 28 years, Sozzani became know for her revolution, a revolution that includes images and topics that often provoked debate.

With Sozzani, was produced an all-black issue in 2008, that featured only black models, and that was reprinted three times.

In addition, several controversial issues have been devoted to body image and gender politics, such as an issue based on women having plastic surgery, in 2005; another, in 2014, prompted by the rise of domestic violence in Italy.

I’d like to remember her with these words:

“Fashion isn’t really about clothes,” she said. “It’s about life.”
