An exhibition of art and trade: the moodboards and collections that originate

Just arrived in Milan, can you imagine a better way to inaugurate this fashion week than with an artistic flair?

Let’s talk about moodboards!

Before I even write about fashion shows, presentations and street style, let’s step back to see how our beloved designers create those masterpieces that we see at the fashion shows.

In short, I took the opportunity and went to the opening cocktail of the Milano Unica exhibition  “On Board: the principle of creativity”  a collective exhibition curated by Simone Marchetti which will feature moodboards next to the collections that inspired them.

What is that? A show that does justice to a basic tool, the moodboard precisely, that is half art and half trade.

A designer’s moodboard is a prelude, without rules and without laws, a beginning which can be evaluared like a story in itself even before becomes a collection.

The moodboard is, in fact, that tool where a stylist collects fragments of images, inspiration, mood, pattern … in short, a creative collage that slowly shapes the mood, of the fashion show.

The exhibition brings together 19 of the greates names of Italian fashion: Antonio Marras, Arthur Arbesser, Blumarine, Etro, Fausto Puglisi, Fendi, Marco De Vincenzo, Marni, MSGM, Ranked # 21, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Ports1916, Prada, Pucci , Salvatore Ferragamo, Stella Jean, Trussardi, Valentino, Versace.

But, culture and fashion, in my opinion, should always be oriented towards the future and, fortunately, this exhibition not disregards this aspiration.

Next to the famous houses, in fact, the collective dedicates space to young people who represent the fashion of tomorrow.

The exhibition includes the vision of those who will create moodboards of the future, the talents that are now growing in prestigious fashion schools such as Parsons School in New York, the Central Saint Martin in London and again, IED, Domus Academy, AFOL Fashion and Marangoni Institute.

You can not miss their brilliant reinterpretations of this working tool that contains the precious and elusive creative spark from where it all begins.

From 22and to 26th September 26, 2016. Visconti Pavilion , Via Tortona 58 – Milan. Entrance free of charge.
